Just in time for all of the great summer fruit, we’ve got a great new dessert menu to show off. New hands are at work in the pastry department and there are some really outstanding things happening. We’re making ice cream, sorbets, and sherbets now, and have some terrific summer cakes and pies too. Don’t forget to try at least one at the end of your next meal here, or just come in for desserts and an ice coffee in the afternoon. That’s how they roll in Vienna, 4 PM is cake time…

Hey, thanks for bearing with us while we make some changes to enhance your experience at the Spy. We are now fully equipped with at least 8 more seats in the back of the restaurant thanks to some amazing cozy new booths we just built last week. We did decrease the size of the market, but don’t fret, we still have a nice selection of pickles, hot sauce, granola, coffee and more in the chicken coop and if you still want to buy the great eggs and milk we use, just ask. For such a small place, we sure carry a lot of beers. From our four taps right now you’ll get Kelso Pilsner, Two Brothers Domain Dupage, Sixpoint Sweet Action, and Blue Point Oatmeal Stout. These are some great beers that go well with our food and are well-suited to a mellow afternoon at Northern Spy, tucked into a booth with some flatbread, cheese, and a plate of house-made headcheese. But the beer adventures don’t end at the taps. In our cooler we’ve got another twelve bottles of craft brews: Blue Point Toasted Lager, Ithaca Nut Brown, Keegan Mother’s Milk, Lake Placid Ubu Ale, Ommegang Hennepin, Smuttynose Brown Dog Ale, Southampton Double White, Troegs Nugget Nectar, Porkslap Ale, Victory Lager and Prima Pils, Wolaver’s Coffee Porter, and, finally, big bottles of Captain Lawrence Imperial IPA. Yes, that’s a long list, so the best thing to do would be to make it a personal goal to try every one of them before the year is through. That’s the kind of goal-setting that we can stand by.

Snow day? Doesn’t stop us, we’re open all day!

It’s snowy, slushy, and cold out there, and hopefully you’ve had the good sense to stay home from work. Fortunately, we don’t have that good sense, so we’re open all day, snow or no. It’s warm in here and the food is fresh, so come by for a lazy-day drink and meal.

We have a fantastic selection of great artisan foods for you to take home and enjoy. Our favorite recent arrival, for beer afficionados, are 1-gallon home brewing kits from Brooklyn Brew Shop. We have the jugs, the ingredients, and the instructions. All you add is water and a couple weeks of patience. These make terrific gifts! We’re also regularly refreshing our supply of our bestselling items: all the awesome candies from Liddabit Sweets and the great variety of fresh pickles from Brooklyn Brine.
Both of companies represent the best of New York’s local food scene. They’re creative and industrious, and the products show real craftsmanship. In our cooler you can find some outstanding products that we encourage you to make part of your weekly grocery pick-up. Milk from Battenkill Valley Creamery, yogurt from Maple Hill Creamery, and eggs from Feather Ridge Farm. These are all from upstate New York, so you’re eating food that’s truly local, fresh, and flavorful.
