The Space

The overall physical design and interior look of Northern Spy Food Co. was developed by Made By Two,  while the renovation was executed by Action Construction, both of Brooklyn, NY. Partners Christophe Hille, Nathan Foot, and Chris Ronis also contributed a great deal of elbow grease  from demolition of the existing space, cleaning, sanding, building tables, and more, straight through to opening day.

The design intentionally incorporates as much recycled, reclaimed, and repurposed materials as possible. The floors are reclaimed hickory boards; the table bases are restored from the previous tenant; much of the paneling is lumber yard leftovers; and the kitchen counter-tops and dining room tables are salvaged bowling alley lanes. In the back of the store, you’ll find an antique chicken coop now housing our pickle selection. The wallpaper and light fixtures are also vintage finds from around the city and the world of eBay. The interior design at Northern Spy mirrors the balance of warmth, sincerity, and attention to detail that we aim for in our food and market.
